healthy breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is literally a meal that "breaks the fast" after a night's sleep and be full of nutrition. Eat a healthy breakfast will provide a sustained release energy slowly throughout the morning, and you'll be less likely reach for a snack.

Breakfast should be one of the easiest meals to fit into your healthy diet. The bases are a piece of fruit, a drink and some muesli, porridge or whole grain bread. You eat may have something similar, but you have to look very carefully at the ingredients. Many varieties of muesli packed high in fat and sugar, disguised with titles like "fitness", "natural", "healthy" or "full of fruit." The first thing to check is added sugar, almost all have this, it is useless and not what you need. As a guide, less than 2 grams of sugar per 100 grams is a little, 10 grams per 100 is a lot. A handle to avoid is "crunchy" - which generally means "sugar coated", also check the ingredients of milk powder, which is also added as a sweetener.

The original muesli, formulated by Dr. Max Bircher-Benner was soaked with fresh fruit to make it easy to digest. This was also what gave muesli added softness and pleasant flavor.

The second thing to check is the amount of fat, but this may be a little confusing because of the good fat / bad fat mix. If the fat is due to the high content of nut, it will be good unsaturated fats. Check the amount of saturated fat - it should be less than 2 grams per 100.

There are some great muesli brands around, check the ingredients and find one that suits you, or make your own. I started making my own when my usual brand was not available at the supermarket and I never looked back. That means I can add what I want. This also means that my muesli varies slightly from week to week, sometimes there are more nuts, cranberries sometimes more - I like the variety.

In addition to knowing that your muesli contains only good ingredients, the other advantage of making your own granola is that it will be cheaper than brands which are very good muesli around. Some suggested ingredients if you want to try making your own - organic oats, barley flakes, rye flakes, raisins, cranberries, nuts (walnuts, almonds, Brazil), sesame and sunflower seeds pumpkin. Look for ingredients with no artificial preservatives to your local health food store, and remember to store your granola in an airtight container.

If you are the exclusion of dairy from your diet, add fresh fruit to your muesli, or a small amount of fruit juice - it will taste delicious!

Another pitfall is breakfast bread produced commercially. Many people are accustomed to bread that is devoid of all goodness. Even if you buy whole grain breads, you should check the ingredients, some have just a small amount of whole grains added. Many have added sugar loaf - bread is a tasty - do not taste sweet! Remember to check the list of ingredients for fat and sugar. It might look like making work difficult business, but once you know the brands to buy, you will not need to check again.

For a breakfast treat weekend, try some fresh mushrooms and tomatoes on toast sprinkled with whole grains of coriander or parsley, or fruit pancakes made from wheat flour and soy or rice milk. As you learn to substitute ingredients with vegan alternatives, your choice will develop.
